Boutros Al Maari

Born in 1968 in Damascus, Syria, Boutros al-Maari graduated with a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris in 2006, and a degree in Printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University, in 1991, where he worked as a Professor of Fine Arts. In addition to being a prolific painter, Al-Maari is a writer and illustrator of children’s books which have been published in Paris. He has held ten solo exhibitions in Damascus, Paris, Dubai and Beirut, most recently at Tajalliyat Art Gallery in Beirut in 2014. He has participated in a large number of group exhibitions in Damascus, Beirut, Alexandria, Kuwait, Frankfurt, Hanover, Paris and Singapore. He currently lives and works in Hamburg, Germany.

 

His works of art have also been acquired by the Ministry of Syrian Culture and Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris (IMA). Furthermore, one of his paintings has recently sold at Christie’s.
